Women's Hormones Play a Role in Shopping Habits
It’s been long known to women all over the world (and some men) that shopping and making purchases that one likes is a form of therapy. And if you’re a self-confessed “shopaholic”, you probably understand that shopping, and even window-shopping to some extent, has a way of taking your mind off of your worries and problems. What most people don’t know is that hormonal levels usually play a hand in one’s shopping and spending urges.
In a study done by Professor Karen Pine of the University of Hertfordshire, the period of ovulation is usually a time when women look for ways to ease their changing emotions. These feelings range from unexplained feelings of sadness, grumpiness, and even depression. To pacify these emotions, women often resort to buying things they like. For Professor Pine, she admits a new a pair of shoes works wonders for her.
According to Drs. Cindy Meston, and David Buss, authors of the book “Why Women Have Sex”, hormone levels greatly affect the decisions of women to buy things like lingerie, make up, shoes, clothes – all items that express their sexuality. This is especially prevalent during ovulation, when a woman’s body is most fertile and ready to mate.
So the next time you feel the urge to go on a shopping spree, you might first want to check your Lady-Comp to determine if you are close to ovulating. Chances are good, once your "fertile window" has passed, so too will your desire for that extra pair of heels!
