The Mystery of the Sperm's Wiggle Revealed
Scientists and experts from the University of California in San Francisco recently found out how sperm cells seemingly imitate the world’s best Olympic swimmers when making their way to the egg. According to them, this discovery could lead to breakthroughs in the field of fertility and fertility boosters for males. Furthermore, this could help fertility experts better understand the debilitating effects of zinc deficiency on male fertility.
Although scientists have long known that the internal pH level of the sperm cell triggers it to swim to the ovum, the mechanism responsible for regulating the swimming remained unknown for years.
Utilizing a technique normally used on nerve cells, Yuriy Kirichok and his colleagues probed sperm cells and found that each sperm’s “tail” had proton channels called Hv1 channels. These channels respond to changes in zinc and pH concentration levels outside the cell. The levels inside the uterus prompt the sperm cell to make a dash to the egg.
These zinc-sensitive channels could also be the reason why men with zinc deficiencies often have a hard time conceiving with their partners and are most likely to require a fertility booster formulated specifically for men, like Fertility Blend for Men. According to Kirichok, zinc keeps sperm inactive. Zinc deficiencies might cause sperm to be burn out before reaching the ovum due to a premature activation, he added.
In addition to boosting fertility with vitamins, supplements and natural remedies the role a healthy diet plays in supporting male fertility cannot be overstated. The reproductive systems of both sexes require the proper vitamins and minerals. Nutritional deficiencies can impair hormone function, inhibit sperm production, and contribute to the production of abnormal sperm. Just as a woman’s diet may either enhance or diminish her level of fertility, it is equally as important for an aspiring father-to-be to maintain a balanced diet containing a broad spectrum of whole and nutritious foods.
• Eat a natural foods diet that focuses on fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish,
poultry, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Choosing organic is always best!
• Drink ½ of body weight in ounces of water daily (e.g., a 150 lb man would drink 75 oz of
water).
• Eliminate processed and refined foods (e.g., white flour), junk food, sugars, alcohol, and
caffeine – all of which can have a devastating effect on sperm cont.
• Avoid saturated fats and hydrogenated oils (e.g., margarine); choose organic olive oil
instead.
• Pumpkin seeds are naturally high in zinc and essential fatty acids which are vital to
healthy functioning of the male reproductive system.
